Our Decades Of Experience In Training Officiants Help Make Your Wedding Day Worry-Free!

Why Learn To Perform Weddings?

Whether you’ve just been asked to perform a wedding ceremony for friends or family members, or if you’re thinking about officiating marriage ceremonies as a side hustle, or as a fulltime job, our fast, simple but comprehensive online training course gets you ready for a worry-free wedding day!

Our completely free course takes you from ordination (also fast and free) to learning the basic structure of a wedding ceremony (including who stands where, and what happens next) to the Wedding Day itself (no, you don’t have to memorize everything).

Frequently Asked Questions

Our course teaches you the basics, but you may have questions before you begin. Let’s clear up some of them!

Becoming ordained to perform marriage ceremonies is actually quite simple – and it’s usually either free or low cost. Becoming ordained as a Wedding Officiant does not require training in religion or theology – that’s a completely different subject from the process of performing marriage ceremonies.

We’ll guide you through the steps of becoming legally ordained and licensed, and explain the steps necessary to insure that you meet all state and local requirements for eligibility as a Wedding Officiant.

Depending on how complex the marriage ceremony is, Wedding Officiants can earn $75 for a fast, simple “elopement” ceremony, to more than $500 (much more!) if the ceremony requires you to be present for consultation, in-person planning sessions, rehearsals, ceremony script writing, and performing the ceremony itself.

Of course, often your first marriage ceremony will be performed at no charge for close friends or family members – you might consider it your wedding present to the happy couple!

This is something you should discuss with your bridal couple. If it’s a formal ceremony, you should dress accordingly. If it’s a casual beach wedding, then go beach casual (shoes optional). But always, always, confirm your attire with the couple.

In any case, never wear anything that draws attention away from the bride and groom – it’s their day, not yours. Keep in mind that you are a professional, and you are presiding over a legal process.

That’s easy – don’t. This isn’t a comedy show. It’s not a roast. While you may include some light-hearted moments in the ceremony, your job is not to be the zany comic … especially if you’re not a professional comedian.

If you think it might be cute or funny to include some zingers or refer to some questionable activities in the bride and/or groom’s past – don’t.

Remember this simple mantra: no marriage license, no marriage. As the Officiant, one of your most important duties (among many) is to make sure that the couple has obtained their marriage license before the ceremony.

Some states have a waiting period for a marriage license, so also make sure that they don’t wait until a few days before the ceremony to go down to the courthouse to get theirs.

Yes. The process of certifying a marriage between two people is a matter of law, not religion. Whether or not you believe in any specific religion or deity has no effect on the process itself; religious beliefs may play into the format of the ceremony, but – from a legal standpoint – the result (that the marriage license is properly completed, signed, witnessed, and returned to the issuing authority following the ceremony, and is subsequently certified) is the key factor in the process.

As an ordained minister, you can perform marriage ceremonies and other common life celebrations, including baby blessings (baptisms), memorials (funerals), and vow renewals (re-commitment ceremonies).

Since it’s a legally-binding contractual process, we focus on marriage ceremonies in our training course, but you are permitted to perform other ceremonies. (Baptisms, funerals, vow renewals and house blessings are not subject to government rules and regulations, and are not recorded by any federal, state or local agency.)

And we have more answers, covering every topic imaginable in regard to performing wedding ceremonies.

Our advice? Take our standard Officiant Academy course. It’s fast and free!
